Javier Sobremazas

Director, Cinematographer & Editor

Javier began his career in England, filming music videos with friends before joining a local film studio as a director of photography and editor. There, he refined his technical craft and narrative sensibility across both commercial and artistic projects, developing a distinctive visual style grounded in rhythm and emotion.

In 2014, he directed his debut documentary Midnight Sun — a music-driven road trip through the landscapes of Finland, Norway and Sweden. The film marked the beginning of his fascination with real journeys and human connection.

After moving to Germany, Javier directed award-winning short documentaries including 12 Days in Idomeni, The New City (Das Bunte Dresden) and Sorojchi — works rooted in social justice, displacement and cultural resilience. His films have been screened at festivals worldwide, noted for their poetic tone and human-centred perspective.

Since the pandemic, he has focused on editing long-form sports and outdoor documentaries such as Jonas Deichmann – Das Limit bin nur ich and Trail der Träume, both streaming on Netflix and shown in cinemas across Germany.

In 2025, he co-founded Maleza Docs with Lucía — a creative collective devoted to ethical documentary production and digital storytelling.
